Cheap Flights to Porto from your airport with our price comparison search

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and is situated by the Douro River near the Atlantic Ocean. It was one of the country’s most important trading cities during the Middle Ages and eventually became an important link in the eighteenth century, between its wine producers and importers like England.

In 1996 UNESCO classified the historic centre as a World Heritage Site and is actually a very beautiful part to explore. The area nearest to the Douro River is particularly outstanding and is divided into two parts. The northern section has plenty of restaurants, hotels and bars and the southern part has the original riverfront port wine cellars.
If you walk through the city centre, you will come across some really lovely buildings with the “shabby chic” look that makes them even more nostalgic to look at. But not everything is traditional and Porto has managed to transform itself into a modern city with much emphasis given over to the cultural and tourist industry.
If you would like to explore this lovely holiday destination, then why not let Travelspec.com search for all the cheapest Porto flights that are available? You save we search!

Recently there have been some massive investments in the city and the hugely impressive €109 million new music hall is no exception. This daring and highly controversial building was opened in 2005 and is already acknowledged of having the best acoustics in the world and hosts many types of musical events.

The Cathedral dates from the twelfth and thirteen centuries and has an almost fortress like look on the outside which is directly opposite to the more subtle and gentle interior. On the same type of interest is the Igreja de Santa Clara, which has an extremely ornate and superbly carved and gilded woodwork interior and is worth admiring for its outstanding design.

One of the most famous landmarks is the Café Majestic which was opened in the 1920’s and is the last of its type in the region. It has a beautiful original Belle Epoque interior that lends grace and style to the many customers who love being in a very refined and rare atmosphere.

Another interesting building is the Stock Exchange Palace which was built in the nineteenth century and has a very impressive atrium that’s covered by an immense glass and metal dome. The whole building has an amazing combination of western and eastern styles and is one of the finest in Porto.
