Cheap Flights to Bologna makes a trip to here a must

Being surrounded by the more popular Italian holiday resorts, Bologna is often bypassed by the masses which means that it is usually less crowded and more personal than the other larger holiday hot spots. This lively and one of the most developed cities in Italy is dominated by its own Renaissance Palace and a forty kilometre arcade. The lovely Nettuno and Maggiore Piazzas are a meeting place for all the Bolognese when they come to chat, shop or even pray.
The best season to see Bologna is in the Autumn and Spring when the climate is mild. As you move into the summer months the temperatures become sizzling hot and most day trippers tend to go to the Adriatic resorts to cool off.

If you feel the urge to taste some real spaghetti Bolognese, then why not letTravelspec.com search for all the cheapest Bologna flights? Just don’t forget when you arrive to try the Baloney as well!

Among the city’s most recognisable landmarks are the two Towers that were built sometime in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and are the only two that still remain from the original hundred or so that were originally built across the city. The taller one can be climbed and offers spectacular view across the whole of the city landscape.

The National Gallery of Bologna which is located under one of the famous Arcades, houses some fine examples of Baroque paintings including El Greco’s Last Supper. The Basilica of St Petronius is another interesting tourist attraction to check out, as it is the fifth largest Basilica in the world which was originally intended to be bigger than the one in St. Peters square in Rome. The other Basilica of note is St. Stephen which consists of a cluster of interconnecting buildings that houses cloisters, crypts, courtyards and various other religious establishments. Behind this complex lies the Archiginnasio public library which is the largest municipal library in Europe and has a collection of more than seven hundred thousand rare and leather bound books.  Entrance is strictly controlled to avoid excessive weight on the already sagging floors!
For a bit of gory culture, go and check out the seventeenth century wooden panelled medical faculty dissection theatre, which was unfortunately destroyed during the war. It has now been expertly restored into what is considered to be the best example of a medieval operating theatre that is still in existence.

In the year 2000, Bologna was European city of Culture and the Jewish Museum was opened to coincide with this event. It explores what life was like in the ghetto and what contributions were made by its inhabitants, despite being under intense constraints.
Another superb establishment to see is the Archaeological Museum which contains one of Italy’s most important collections of Egyptian artefacts.  It also houses the finest Etruscan collections that include finds from as far back as the ninth century.
