Macau is located on the coastal region in the South of China and faces the South China Sea. It has many successful thriving industries that manufacture a diverse range of products like textiles, electronics and toys. Its quickest growth industry however is the notable tourist industry and this can be identified by the many casinos that are now situated in and around the city.
The subtropical climate in the region is greatly influenced by the monsoons with markedly different temperatures arising in quick succession from one to another.
The historical connection that this city has had with both the Chinese and Portuguese over the cause of history is the underlying reason why so much of the region has been affected with their individualistic cultures. This has resulted in the city and the surrounding areas being left with a diverse collection of festivals, events and holidays. But the most famous “exhibition” that takes place here is the annual and now well established Grand Prix event, for which most of the main streets in the regions general Peninsula are converted to a temporary racetrack.
Along with Hong Kong, Macau is designated as a special administrative region. It was returned to the Chinese in December 1999 and will retain its special status until 2049. In the meantime it retains its own civil administration and the rights of its people under former Portuguese rule are guaranteed. This has led to this region being one of the wealthiest places on Earth and with the highest life-expectancy anywhere. So if you want to live long and prosper, move here – at least until 2049.
